We've encorporated some changes in canine annual vaccination protocols - we are now offering a three year rabies vaccine. This eliminates the need to vaccinate every year (although you will need to replace your rabies tag at your pet's annual wellness visit). We still offer the one year vaccine as young animals require this protection for the first two years of life, but afterwards they may receive the longer lasting 'upgrade'.

We are also recommending titers for Distemper and Parvo virus dogs after the age of three if they have had regular vaccinations for the past few years. This requires a small blood sample and will determine if your dog has protective immunity to Distemper and Parvo viruses. If your dog's titers show protection from these diseases, they will not require vaccination for that year!

The last core vaccination for your canine pals is the Bordetella Bronchiseptica vaccination, which is recommended every 6 months for all dogs. Bordetella Bronchiseptica is also called "Kennel Cough" which may be misleading. It was first discovered in a kennel, but is an airborne disease which infects the respiratory tract. Dogs can be exposed to this in various places, from their own backyard to dog parks, grooming facilities, and during neighborhood walks.

Please do not hesitate to talk to your Veterinary Assistant or one of our Veterinarians about these changes in our canine annual vaccinations at your next wellness visit!
